Drawing 005: Portrait - Penelope Cruz

Hi everyone!
Today I am very excited to show you this drawing because I am very proud of myself! It's a portrait I made of the gorgeous Penelope Cruz from a photograph taken by Paul Schmidt for ELLE. I used a grid to get everything at the right place. I usually never use a grid but it makes the result so much better that I know I will be doing this each and every time now. I got these awesome pencils for Christmas (F, 2B, 4B, 6B, 8B and graphite) and it definitively helped getting the darker parts really dark. The hardest part for me is always the hair. But practice makes perfect so I plan on drawing lots and lots of hair to get better at it. I hope you like this drawing and have a great Sunday!

Birthday Card Ideas

Hi friends!
Today I wanted to show you some DIY birthday cards I made a few days ago for friends. The one with the cupcake is for my friend Emilie who turns 17 tomorrow! And the one below was for my friend Niels whose birthday was on Saturday. I just wanted to show you how easy it is to make your own cards. Just choose some nice paper, fold it in half like a card and glue a little drawing on the front. The cupcake is the easier option to draw plus it works for anyone whereas the cat needs a bit more drawing skill and only works for cat-lovers. But you could draw anything that makes you think of the person that you're doing the card for. I hope you'll think about making your own cards!

Taking a break

Hi friends!
As some of you may have noticed, I haven't posted in a while. I've been really busy with schoolwork and just wasn't feeling like posting. Anyways, I want to improve on my drawing skills and I've gone through tones of magazines to rip out pages that interested me. I like to draw from pictures so magazines are a great source for pretty faces with interesting features. This is a little something I made to practice. I hope you're having an awesome day and bye!

Drawing 004: Butterfly

Hi everyone!
Today I wanted to show you this drawing I did for an art project. It's actually part of a 6 drawing series but this one is my favorite. I'm happy to have done a landscape because for once it's not a portrait! I hope you're having an awesome day and bye!

DIY: Fall/Autumn watercolor artwork

Hi friends!
Today's post is not about nail art! I'm happy to show you some watercolors today. As much as I love nail art, I'm happy to be finished with the challenge so I have more time to do other stuff. I chose to make something for fall/autumn (depends how you call it). It was really easy and it looks so cute! And you can easily do it too. Here's how:
You'll need one or two thin brushes, some water and of course watercolors! Here are the colors I used. I used red, orange and yellow the most. The brow was only for small details so it's not that important.
I am assuming you know the basics to watercolor but if you don't I would advise to watch some tutorials. I myself learned watercolors on youtube. I'm really not an expert at them but it's quite easy. So, to make the leaf, draw the outline (and fill it in) with a pale color so you'll be able to add more color on it. Then, use your lighter color at the top of the leaf (yellow). After that, put your medium color around the middle (orange) and the darkest color at the bottom (red). Don't forget to blend it in with a bit a water, it makes all the difference!
I did the same for the writing. Use a pale color first and then add more, blending between each color to make the gradient nicer. As you can see from this picture, I did several mistakes but you can only see them from really close so they don't bother me that much. Also, I painted the writing on a different piece of paper and added it after because I was afraid of messing it up. Of course you could just write directly below the leaf.
I hope you liked this tutorial and if you try it out, please give me a link in the comments! Love, Elsa

Drawing 003: Portrait

Hi everyone!
I am back again. I took a break from blogging and stuff because I haven't felt inspired in a long time and I simply didn't want to force myself to do it. I started a blog for fun, and I think it should stay fun. An amazing blogger (Whitney from Dressed Up Nails, go check her blog out if you like nail art!) once told me that if I should never blog if I don't want to. I've thought about this and she's so right! If I'm not having fun, you guys probably won't either and I really don't want that. Anyway, I recently found some amazing illustrators online (I'll do a whole post of links soon) and it inspired me to draw again. I really want to get better at drawing portraits so yesterday I tried to draw Holland Roden (in this pic). She's an actress from Teen Wolf (my two weeks of non-creativity included watching the whole series from season 1 to the beginning of season 4). Besides the ridiculous name (at least in my opinion), it's quite good. It's not great, but it's funny and I really like Dylan O'Brien ^^. Anyway, I kinda like my drawing. It doesn't look like her so much that I would actually recognize her but I think my overall technique has improved. If you have any tips or remarks please leave me a comment. I wish you an amazing day, and bye!!

Drawing 002

Hi friends!
And the second drawing on my blog is... a portrait of a girl with a flower crown! How original! (see here for the 1st one) But you know what they say, "practice makes perfect" so I'm practicing. I drew this for a friend who is very important to me so I spent quite some time on it. Especially the flowers and the hair. Like always, the hardest part for me is hair. I just can't seem to make it look realistic. But like I said, practice. If you have any tips on how to draw hair or know about some nice tutorials online, please share them with me in the comments. I will be eternally grateful.
Hope you are having an amazing day and bye!

Flower girl

And here is the first drawing of this blog!
I drew this for an art class project and I am very proud of it so I wanted to show it.
It looked like that without colors. I actually really liked it but I felt my project needed color because there was another part with a spooky skull so I really wanted it to contrast.
Tell me what you think in the comments and don't forget to follow me on bloglovin!

Ps: I changed the title to my handwriting instead of a classic font. Do you like it?
