Birthday Card Ideas

Hi friends!
Today I wanted to show you some DIY birthday cards I made a few days ago for friends. The one with the cupcake is for my friend Emilie who turns 17 tomorrow! And the one below was for my friend Niels whose birthday was on Saturday. I just wanted to show you how easy it is to make your own cards. Just choose some nice paper, fold it in half like a card and glue a little drawing on the front. The cupcake is the easier option to draw plus it works for anyone whereas the cat needs a bit more drawing skill and only works for cat-lovers. But you could draw anything that makes you think of the person that you're doing the card for. I hope you'll think about making your own cards!

DIY Birthday Card

Hello everyone and happy 4th of July!
Since I am french, I don't celebrate the American Independence Day. However, my Dad's birthday is today. So happy birthday Dad! I made this little card for him because I always prefer homemade cards over store-bought ones. It's always more personal. And to make it more personal, I put a little octopus on it! (It's kind of an inside joke) I was inspired by the summer and the sea so I put ombré waves on it. To make your own card you'll need some white paper for the base of the card, some blue paper in at least three shades (you could pick another color instead of blue but it wouldn't look like waves, but I guess you could make some red and orange lava...? Or a magic pink sea!), scissors, glue and a pencil.
First, cut your white paper to make the base of the card. You can make it any size you like. Then, cut the lightest shade of blue a tiny less larger than the white card once it's folded in two. You don't have to make it as long as the card, just make sure it's long enough so the next color will cover the bottom of it.
After that, draw the waves on the top of your blue paper. I tried several options but I went with three waves in the end. Once you are happy with the shape of the waves, cut it.
Then, glue it to the card. You can glue it as high or as low as you want. I left a bit of white at the top but you could leave more or none at all. Then, repeat the same steps with the darker blues. I made the medium shade with four waves and the darkest with three again.
And to add the finishing touch, I drew a cute little octopus on some white paper and cut it out and I gave him a face with a black pen. And I added a speech bubble cut out of tracing paper because I thought the transparency effect would look cool and I didn't want to hide the waves. Obviously, it's my dad's b-day so I wrote "happy birthday" on it but you can write anything you like.
And voila! You just made a super cute summer themed card. The octopus is a little childish so it would make a cute card for a baby boy birth. And yes, I know my father is not a baby boy but I like cute stuff so that's what he got!

A purple dress

Hi friends!
This is a dress I sewed a few months ago. It is very cute, and purple and lace-y! I wore at a friend's party and got a few compliments so I'm pretty proud of it.

This is a quick drawing I made before sewing, that's what I wanted it to look like. I thought about adding sleeves but I didn't because I'm a bit lazy.

And these are the dimensions I used to cut my fabric. Feel free to use this and modify them according to your size but if you post anything online, please link back to this blog post. Thanks :)

By the way, sorry for the long absence on here, tomorrow is my last day of "real" class. I'll have one last test and and then I'm free for more than two months! Gotta love the summer holidays :) Love you all!

DIY Notebook

Hi fellas!
I made this cute and simple little notebook to carry around with me everywhere I go. And you can make your own by following these super easy instructions! :)

You'll need: paper (I used classic white paper but you could choose colored paper or one with lines)
A needle and thread
Pretty fabric/paper for the cover (I used fabric)
1) Make sure all your sheets of paper are the same size, then fold them in half to mark the middle.
2) Make holes with your needle. I found it easier to make the holes before sewing.
3) Sew the sheets together.
4) Cut out the cover. If you make it paper, cut it a bit bigger than the rest of the notebook. And choose a quite thick, cardboard-y paper. For the fabric, cut paper to the right size and glue your fabric on it by folding the edges over to the "inside" of the cover.

To finish it off, write a title to your notebook. I glued little paper letters on my fabric cover. If you cover is paper, you can make the design more complicated since you can draw directly on it! And you're done. Easy, right?

White Queen dress

Hello friends!
Here are pictures of my costume that I wore for carnival! I was Alice in Wonderland's White Queen! Obviously, my dress isn't nearly as beautiful as the one worn by Anne Hathaway in the Tim Burton movie, but I think that it is quite nice for something I sewed during two weeks everyday after school! I'll admit, I'm proud of myself :)

I hope you like it! If you are interested in a tutorial, please tell me so in the comments !

Dungaree Dress

Hello my darlings! I sewed a dungaree dress! Well, not just now, I made it this summer but I thought you might be interested in seeing it. It was pretty easy to make without any sewing pattern. I used 1 and a half meter of cotton fabric. But I am quite small.

The only "complicated" parts were the pleats on the skirt. I measured my waist, divided it by 2 and added 16cm for two pleats of 8cm.
It closes with a small zipper on the side.
Now I just have to wait for the sun to wear it! Or wear it as a skirt with a sweater over it and some pink tights! Do you like it?

DIY Card

Hi friends!
To my mind, a self-made card will always be better than a store-bought one, even if some companies produce beautiful cars for every occasion. I just feel it's more personal. So last week end I made this little card for my grand-father. It was very easy to make and I think it looks very cute! You'll need:
- paper in different colors (the paper needs to be a little thick)
- a pencil and a pen
- scissors
- a ruler and a protractor
- a glue stick
These are the dimensions I used. The only measurement you'll need to keep no matter how big or small you want your hexagons is the 60° angle. Draw an hexagon the size you want on some paper (don't use your fancy colored paper, this is just a stencil).
Place your stencil on the colored paper and trace over the outline. You can use any color you want. I would still advise not to take too many different colors. I decided from the beginning how many hexagons of each color I wanted but I guess you can also just cut 2 or 3 from each color and then decide, but you might waste some paper.
Cut all the hexagons. I chose different shades of blue and purple and ended up adding some white. My hexagons are not perfectly symmetrical but both ways work, the finished product will look a little different.
Then play around with your hexagons, placing them randomly until you are pleased with how it looks. Cut some hexagons in half or smaller to fit in the corners. After that, cut some white paper to make the base of your card, and glue everything.
Then, depending on what occasion the card is for, write a small message on another paper or directly on the card (I was afraid to mess it up!). I also drew a little bee to go with the hexagons.
And voila! You are finished and can be proud of yourself. See? it wasn't hard at all. And I guarantee you that the person you'll give this card too will be happier than if you had just bought a card!

Tell me what you color you would choose in the comment section and don't forget to follow me on bloglovin!
